Stratford Town (H) 20/04/2019

This weekend sees our penultimate home game of this league season when we welcome Stratford Town for their first visit ever to the Amber Dew Events Stadium. Earlier in the season the Trawlerboys came away with an impressive 3-1 win considering the long journey and the difficulties we had in finding the net throughout this season, until Jake arrived. Match thread; http://www.lowestofttownfcfansforum.co.uk/cgi-bin/Forum/YaBB.pl?num=1534959852

Stratford had a lacklustre start to the season but since have turned things around and find themselves in the play offs with Biggleswade still uncomfortably behind so no doubt about it they'll be looking to exact revenge and seal their play off berth. Similarly the Trawlerboys will be out for revenge following the narrow CSS league cup defeat and many fans will be hoping the home side can try to derail the visitors hopes of securing  play-off spot.

Both teams have had a decent run of form. Lowestoft sit 4th whilst Stratford sit seventh with defeats to Kings Lynn and Rushall. We should certainly expect a competitive game should be expected on a warm and dry Easter Saturday in front of a nice big appreciative crowd. A reminded this Saturday is the deadline to be getting in your player of the season votes. Voting slips are available in the clubhouse or from Helen Nixon.

Come on you blues!!

If ever there was a gamble to stay in a league , this one could not have worked out any better.
Of course the announcer saying its game number 200 and a hat trick would make it a nice neat 100 was said with a hint of jest, looks like Jake decided he would make it a day he and all of us would remember for the  long off season and ensure we will be back in good numbers come August.  A simply stunning individual performance , if the first was typically clinical the second deserved a much bigger stage, spinning just inside their  half, shoulder and knee flicks allied to  superb strength and balance took him through their robust defence and a 20 yard  plus lash in the bottom corner. I was up and many of us old codgers managed to get up as well to applaud a moment not bettered all season.
So of course  we gifted them two back , it only set up the late winner and hat trick goal to seal the escape on the day and season.

Back to the start , cracking day and Reedy's prowess swelled the numbers but that pitch did look problematically hard.

Yet again Town were excellent first half , soon getting on top of decent opposition , Dylan and Bammo were playing their supporting roles to the full and Conor was filling Rossi's boots with suitable tenacity and quality on the ball.

Second half as expected the opposition upped their game and forced an equaliser soon enough when they had a half hour of real dominance and we may well have been behind before Jake intervened late on.

I won't mention any errors or problems , today is a celebratory day, for all involved on and off the pitch, I hope  we finish the remaining fixtures better than last year and may climb another place or two.

Once again thanks to the five who dug deep, Jake added the goals to the graft all had been putting in throughout the  season and the  even crowds are growing!

FT: Lowestoft Town 3-2 Stratford Town
Att 461

Our second double of the season against a team you would never have guessed were in play-off contention! A third hat trick for Jake Reed, taking his states to 200 games with 100 goals. Another game of 2 halves, the Trawlerboys started off brightly and were 2-0 up within 35 minutes with some opportunistic well taken goals, before the visitors reduced the arrears shortly before half time with a sloppily given away goal, a clear misunderstanding at the back.

The second half started after the unusual sight of a fresh dose of water being given to the goal areas, and the visitors soon drew level with another failed clearance that could have been seriously prevented. The fear now was the visitors could break quickly and snatch all 3 points which would have been totally undeserved in the face of some serious graft from the home side. The crowd of 461 baked in the Easter sunshine, chances came and went in a game marshalled well by Abi Marriott and her assistants but then the pressure started to give, Smudger and Bammo working well spraying the ball up field towards Reed to not much avail, then on came Henry Pollock and with almost hist first touch crossed a ball to Reed who poked the ball home to the joy of the home crowd.

A fully deserved 3 points which sees us safe at step 3 for another season, indeed town sit 5th from bottom with a real possibility of adding a realistic full 6 points from the 2 remaining games against Leiston on Monday, who were turned over 5-0, and Bedworth next weekend. Now we're safe the next target has to be finishing above Leiston whose season since the new year has gone to pot.

Can't add too much to Ian's and Jimbos summing up but would say that apart from Reeds stellar performance this afternoon the stand out player for me was Kyle Barker.

This boy grows in confidence on a weekly basis and seems to have time to spare on the ball. A good indicator in itself. He didn't waste a pass all afternoon and was tenacious in his tackling. Certainly one for the future.

The fact that Peterborough have awarded him a contract for next season is testament to his development under the tutelage of JG.

Aside from Barker, the hat trick and the result I was cheered by the fact that one of the sponsors guests (the Forum sponsored today's game ) was so impressed by the teams performance today that he will be back next week!

It may be only one extra through the turnstiles but if we can build on performances like today during the course of next term then as a club we can put behind us the relegation battles of the past two seasons and look forward to better days.

See you all at Leiston🍻

At best a pessimist is invariably proved correct, at worst he is pleasantly surprised...........😉
