Coalville Town (H) 06/04/2019

This weekend sees the visit of Coalville Town to the Amber Dew Events Stadium.

Earlier in the season we travelled to the midlands only to return empty handed following a 1-0 defeat to the Ravens. Match thread; http://www.lowestofttownfcfansforum.co.uk/cgi-bin/Forum/YaBB.pl?num=1538003216

The visitors sit below the play offs in 8th, 7 points off the play-offs and their chances of making a push for promotion were dealt a pretty much fatal blow with a 3-2 home defeat to Royston this week  match centre and highlights; https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/match/2018-2019/southern-football-league-prem...

Manager Adams Stevens thoughts; https://twitter.com/CoalvilleTownFC/status/1113191654167597056

The Ravens have won 2 and lost 3 out of their last 6 away games, including a 4-1 win at St Neots and a 1-1 at Needham.

So expect a visiting side who are pretty much out of the play-off mix, playing with less expectation and pressure, against the Trawlerboys side still wanting to put the ghosts of the bottom 3 well and truly mathematically out of sight - should be another entertaining game with chances at both ends. https://www.sofascore.com/lowestoft-town-coalville-town/Jaosoup

Don't forget to vote for your player of the season at the ground.

Come on you blues!!

A cold grey day kept the crowd down no doubt but the  fare on offer was of a decent standard  , whistle happy ref apart and the result may be a downer but the performance wasn't.

Seeing them line up I was optimistic, we had a good line up and strong bench, no giants for them  and with a pitch looking good , apart from nigh on invisible lines the omens were good.
First half we had to weather a strong start and within fifteen their keeper was also  being tested , good positive intent from both , only stifled by the constant whistle blowing meant the was plenty to enjoy.

Of course the bench was used early with Jack going off  groin strained but Adam was a fine replacement.

For all the positive endeavour half time was almost  upon us with the deadlock no nearer being broken until Bammo , already starting to stumble was stupidly helped to the ground, of course their keeper pulled of a fine flying save to maintain our dreadful penalty record.
Half time was more delflating than it needed to be as we had played pretty well against  a side vying for a play off spot.
They came out more postive and pressed us back without really troubling Elvijs and with both defences getting on top ofthe forwards it looked like a mistake would be needed to unlock the game.
Sadly it was ours and a neat finish under Elvijs could have quashed our hopes, then Bammo slips Jake through and he missed the target in a one on one ( my mortgage would have gone on that one ) and it was not looking like our day.

Then was hope starting to fade the prolific Josh scores in a melee from a corner and the scoreline looked fair enough.

If a mistake opened us up for the first, brilliance did us for the winner as a superbly driven cross cut our backline and Elvijs out and a fine diving header  sealed the points.

Fair play to our lads they plugged away with plenty of corners late on but to no avail , Coalville's back line  held out resolutely enough and a deserved point slipped away.

No  need for despondency , they were a side pushing hard  for the top six , no such tests left for us  now  and the squad is looking much stronger.
Jake won't draw many blanks and Bammo supported him well again.

The midfield and defence matched up well enough , so a bit more luck, another new penalty taker and a ref who only uses his whistle when he has to and points not doubt will follow.

FT; Lowestoft Town 1-2 Coalville Town.
Att 367

Fair report Ian - I too was surprised by the near non existent pitch markings, times are hard and have we now run out of paint?

Good team performance against a side who made a long journey and going by their Twitter account a big win, although their play off aspirations do still seem ambitious at this stage. On balance of play a draw would have been a fair result but the lack of clinical finishing cost us dear.

With St. Neots winning at our next opponents Hitchin, safety isn't guaranteed but is still firmly in our own hands with 4 games left and 3 of those being strongly winnable.

Exciting, competitive match with chances at both ends, shots on target and goalkeeping saves. We certainly deserved a share of the spoils but when we spurn a golden opportunity from the spot we are bound to regret it. We need another Jack Ainsley. A point, at least, next week would be good. The lads are playing attractive football and look good to stay up. Come on you blues.
