Bedworth United (A) 01/09/2018

On Saturday we are off to Warwickshire again, where our hosts are Bedworth United; another club we have never met in any competition.
They play on a 3G pitch at their home the Oval....https://www.footballgroundmap.com/ground/the-oval-ground/bedworth-united

Latterly they have spent time in both the Southern and Northern leagues.
Last season saw them finish in fourth spot in the Evo Stick Southern Div One and they gained promotion via the Play Offs to the recently formed SL Central Division.

To date their season has been one of toil for little reward and they currently sit bottom of the division....... https://www.sofascore.com/lowestoft-town-bedworth-united/Ndsoup
They have endured a difficult start to life in the new division and suffered a heavy loss in their opener at home to Needham.
Joe Marsden had a field day, bagging two.
Difficult away trips to St Neots, Biggleswade and leaders Kettering have yielded just the one point with the Greenbacks scrambling a draw at the Waders.

Mondays mauling at early pacesetters Kettering ...https://youtu.be/K1QbMU_TWio ....together with Needhams opening welcome would suggest that they're very suspect at the back.
Conceding three per game on average. Hopefully we will exploit any weaknesses that emerge in what will be their second game at the Oval this term.

We will go into this one full of confidence on the back of three wins on the spin.
For those making the trip , have a safe journey.

My first LTFC match of the season and what a transformation since the turgid fare of the bygone eras.

The match - we gave away a horrifically soft goal. Zielonca gifted possession to one of their players midway in our own half - Smudger bottled a 50/50 and we gift a corner kick. They scored from a free header from the corner and we were 1-0 down. The first half petered out and it wasn't great. Oh what a difference in the second 45. Both teams went for it. Bammo had a header cleared off the line and our hosts missed several glaring chances to make it 2-0 - Praise to Putnins for excellent keeping. Chances aplenty at both ends and we finally get a deserved leveller after good work by Fisky. A draw was about fair.

We are clearly a work-in-progress and better will come. Encouraging signs (and some areas that need worked on).

Nice little town, Bedworth with some sights to behold in the local Wetherspoons - I was lucky to make the match...but that's another story!

See you at Ware.

Two well matched sides albeit at different ends of the table, provided an entertaining contest on Bedworths 3G surface, but both lacked the composure and finesse to see the other off.

The home side looked to possess a real threat from the off and settled quickly. Lowestoft, by contrast, seemed to struggle to come to terms with the bounce and pace of the 3G pitch. Not for the first time in recent history....Harlow and Worthing both come to mind!

Putnins was the busier keeper in the first 45 and was equal to what was thrown at him, making a number of saves to deny Dubinat and Troke but was left with no chance as Gordon found space from a corner and nodded home on 17 mins. More home pressure followed as we struggled to find any rhythm on the slick playing surface. HT 1-0

To our credit in the second period we didn't resort to the hoof.
Although too many passes were either over hit or simply misplaced, we did provide a more threatening presence and strikes from Higgs and Bammant had the home keeper scrambling to parry them away.
Putnins again proved his worth between the sticks with two point blank stops midway through the half that kept us in the game.

Finally on 82 mins we drew level. After good work by Scharr and Higgs, Fisk played in Curry who stroked in from close range. 👏

The games final minutes were frantic as both sides went in search of a winner but all efforts were frustrated; mainly  by an over fussy referee who managed to book 5 players merely for over exuberance.

The sixth booking , Higgs, was borne of frustration. For the second Saturday running he entered the book for needlessly kicking the ball away when a free kick was awarded against him. With such a small squad we cannot afford to have key players missing games for such petulance. I'm sure JG will be having words with the young man.

We escaped with a point today, but if it were not for some last ditch defending and Putnins reflex saves it could have been zero.

Was today the curse of the plastic or simply growing pains?
It certainly isn't a surface that we have ever performed well on.......and guess what...
.........we are back on the plastic next week at Ware. 🤔
