FA Cup: Ware (away) 08/09/2018
28th Aug, 2018 at 12:22pm

The FA Cup draw has been made for the first round qualifying and we have been drawn away to Ware, a club we haven't encountered since our days in the Ryman league division 1 north. Winners will receive a tidy £6,000.

Our record against Ware over the years shows that we have yet to defeat the Hertfordshire outfit so this could prove to be a tricky tie.

Our only league encounters, Isthmian North One 2009/10, saw us record a 2-2 draw at their place and a 3-2 defeat at the Meadow.

Our cup record is even more dismal suffering defeats in both the FA Cup and FA Vase.
1988/89 FA Cup Preliminary Rd.......Ware 2-0 Lowestoft
1999/00 FA Vase 2nd Qual Rd......Lowestoft 0-1 Ware

On current form we go into this one as favourites but history would suggest that we may need a replay to progress.

A handy tie for moi as in the locale - decent grub to be found in the vicinity, too.

Ware had ex-Enfield manager Steve Newing in charge for part of last season but he departed along with half of their squad. A quick look and I don't recognise any of their players.

This is winnable.

A solitary shinned effort from Bammant on 69 mins was enough to see Lowestoft depart Ware £6k richer and enter the draw for the 2nd Qual Rd.

The match itself was no classic as for the second week running we never really came to terms with the dreaded plastic surface.

The first half saw us struggle to create chances. Zielonka, so often the creator in midfield couldn't find a telling ball all afternoon and consequently we found ourselves being reduced to shots from range. Bammant worked the home keeper on 20 mins and that was the sum total of our threat.

We were never seriously threatened as Jarvis and Deeks snuffed out a lightweight home attack. They are beginning to look quite a partnership at the centre of our rearguard. 0-0 HT

Skipper Smith upped the teams tempo in the second period and generally we looked sharper and the more likely to break the deadlock. Schaar and Higgs combined well down the flanks but too often their crosses were to no one in particular or we were beaten to the ball by a home head. We finally saw a cross converted as Bammant got on the end of one of Higgs penetrative passes at the back post and tucked away the chance. 0-1 69 mins. We came so close to doubling our advantage minutes later when
Higgs, with a trademark drop of the shoulder and cut in to the edge of the box, saw his curling shot cannon off the bar and away to safety.

The last minutes of the game saw Curry receive a red card for a second bookable offence after being previously cautioned for retaliation. With us down to ten Ware pushed forward. Puttnins flapped at a cross and the resultant corner saw pinball around the box in a sea of legs. When the football fell into space the Ware attacker ballooned it high and out of the ground for the sixth time in the match. Much to the delight of Des and the two Trevor's who all shouted 6 in the ball out of the ground spread. They shared the pot and were the first winners this season.

A good turnout of Trawlerboys and girls resplendent in wacky shirts and hats were in good spirits at the end and now look forward to Mondays draw.......would it be too much to hope for a home tie....?

FT Ware 0-1 Lowestoft Town
Att 173.

An important win but didn't we make hard work of it at times? Throughout it was clear the Trawlerboys were the better team, although for the hosts who were a predominantly a small side in terms of height, did have a couple of strong and pacey midfielders but town were just about equal to what they could produce. A couple of substitutions late on in the game with the addition of Matt Brown and and Henry Pollock just swung the game in towns favour.
