The first home league game of the 2018/19 season sees us welcome St. Ives Town.

The visitors will be buoyed by their super start to the season with a 1-0 home win over league favourites Tamworth, match report; http://stivestownfc.co.uk/event/st-ives-town-vs-tamworth/ They are a club with a long history and of a similar age to The Trawlermen; http://stivestownfc.co.uk/club-history-2/ They also had similar luck last season, only saved from relegation by the reorganisation of the leagues after finiahing 20th.

The Trawlerboys will be looking to bounce back from the late heartache against Halesowen Town and to get the points tally finally off the mark to a home crowd with renewed hopes and expectations under the new management of Godders and Reyns. Town were certainly a match for their opposition on Saturday and didn't deserve to come away with nothing and they will im sure be keen to put that right tomorrow evening.

It looks to be a good evening weather-wise and the recent rain should have done the playing surface a world of good, which should be conducive to good on the deck passing we've recently seen of late.

Come on you blues!!

Lowestoft Town will be looking to kickstart their season when they entertain St Ives on Tuesday evening at the Amber Dew Events Stadium in the Evo-Stik Premier Division Central (kick-off 7.45pm).
.
The Trawlerboys slipped to defeat on the opening day of the season at Halesowen Town with former West Bromwich Albion strker Lee Hughes getting a late winner from the penalty spot. But manager Jamie Godbold will have been heartened by his side’s performance when only the form of the Halesowen goalkeeper Daniel Platt prevented them from gaining at least a share of the spoils.

St Ives will be looking to build on their 1-0 win at home against Tamworth at the weekend thanks to Munashe Sundire’s long range strike. It was a surprise result for the Saints, who were only spared relegation last season due to the restructure of the non-league system.

Meanwhile, Godbold will be without Billy Johnson and Ish Fatadjo, who have both earned moves to Norwich City and Beira Mar respectively.

I note that Joe Marsdon scored 5 for Needham last night.
We played some good football last night, plenty of pace in the forward line, crisp passing and build up play but whilst we had more of the play we only made the keeper work once and Jacek had a thunderous drive that would have burst the net had it been a foot lower. The goal was a good curling shot that gave Elvijs no chance. I was happy with the overall performance of on the deck football. Most of the youngsters have not played at this level before so I harbour optimism for the season. Something has to give on Saturday and hopefully Hitchin will still be smarting and hung over from last night. (and Kings Lynn lost again).

Lowestoft 0-1 St Ives.
Att 393.

Yet another game of good individual performances only to end in late heartbreak.

From the off the visitors clearly set out their stall of defensive play, time wasting where possible, clearly here to at best take home a point. I feel for the St Ives fans who may have to watch such tactics nearly every game!

A period of early pressure which saw Putnins well protected by the home defence, from the visitors was eventually turned around and town started to advance forward, quick break were the key as given time pretty much the whole of the St Ives outfield flooded the penalty area. This made corners and set pieces a nightmare to connect with against a taller opposition. A night where Bammo who wasn't there, could have been useful. That aside town did have their chances but many of which were just off target.

One highlight of the game was the runs and workmanship of Higgs, like against Halesowen opposition players struggled to keep up.

Overall Putnins had very little to do all game as the visitors presented little threat going forwards. Then at the death came the sucker punch a rather fortuitous strike high past Putnins who maybe let it bounce one to many times in the build up as suggested by others closer to the action.

Putnins, Curry, Brown, Smith, Jarvis, Tann, Zielonka, Deeks, Higgs, Ingram(Schaar), Fowkes

(No Fisk, Travis or Bammo.)

Next up Hitchin Town on Saturday, who were mauled 8-1 by Needham Market, like the Trawlerboys they will be keen to bounce back. Could be an interesting match!!  Cool

Well, apart from the result that was a good night out.
Fine weather and pitch and nigh on 400 in to watch what seemed a new beginning. Pity three of  those retained to add experience were absent, especially as early in the season  the new brigade need to find their feet, right down the spine of the side as well.
No moans from me, good honest performances throughout the side and some  direct pace ( young  higgs ) and  the returning connor reminding me of Rillo, plenty to be encouraged by. If Saturday was a punch in the solar plexus this really was a kick in the nuts as a point was least deserved , good finish to be fair and that was the difference on the night- a finish.

Lets hope the confidence has not been dented same approch again saturday and one will go in no doubt.

As for the chairman, no need to welcome him back he was never really away was he !
