The new seasons opener on Saturday sees us make a first visit to Halesowen Town.

The Yeltz have a long history, which prior to their most successful era of the eighties,
was spent in and around various Birmingham local leagues.

The 1980s were truly their glory years.
They won the West Midlands league four times in succession and appeared in three Wembley Vase finals.
Two of which saw them triumph, over Fleetwood '85 and Southall '86

Success on this scale was followed by stepping up a level and joining the Southern League Midland Division 1986. They won promotion to the Premier Div in 1990 and spent two decades in the Southern League until their switch to the Northern Premier League Div One South in 2012. They won promotion to the Premier Division in 2015.

Last season saw them struggle and they finished one off the bottom. So it's not surprising that the bookies see them as relegation material.
Our first six pointer of the season then😆
Lots of info on their forum......https://www.yeltz.co.uk/index.php
....including a rather optimistic Yeltz fan predicting a 5-0 drubbing for the visitors.😂

They have strengthened during the close season and notably have added the ex-Ipswich/Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. He joins the much travelled, Lee Hughes, who we last encountered in the Con North at Worcester.
A 74 year old strike pairing ♿️ however if they can get them both fit they may just trouble a few at this level.

A difficult opener for sure but there will be tougher trips....a point wouldn't be a bad return, but would three be too much to hope for? It will be hot and humid so fitness could well be what decides the the contest and I wouldn't bet against our youth outrunning and out gunning Halesowens more experienced side.

The Yeltz play at The Grove

and for those of you making the trip have a safe journey.

Comment?
Until the club loses the top-heavy "don't question" style and reverts to a club supporters can feel good about........not yet.

Looking forwards to this, a squad putting in some decent performances during the friendlies and a few shewd investments too.

A new ground as well as a few decent boozers in the vicinity for the fans of real ale, the King Edward VII outside the ground as well as the Wagon and Horses and the Hawne Tavern nearby.

Not forget the clubhouse too, which they are hoping to have finished the preseason renovations so I hear.

Halesowen town 1-0 Lowestoft town.

Lowestoft didn't disgrace themselves at all and were competitive throughout. The second half we had more of the ball and put pressure on the home keeper but could not find that final killer touch, where is Jake Reed when you need him... Certainly would have been more of a match to Ebanks Blake who was disappointing and decidedly past it, and it even took a penalty for Lee Hughes to seal the points for the hosts (the less said about him the better...).

Being on the players coach there and back, it must be said how impressed I was by the management style and team building that goes towards prep for the match, the atmosphere between the players and management was jovial and high spirited, and this was also the case on the way back, you'd thought that we had won as opposed to the morgue like atmosphere under the former regime. Well done to Jamie and Andy for really putting in the effort.

A great little non league set up, great ground, newly done up up club house bar with a great ale on by local West Mids brewery 'Fixed Wheel' plenty of great pubs within easy reach of the ground, I really do hope we visit again next season.

Thank you to the friendly welcoming football family that are the Yeltz!
