Lowestoft 4-0 Waveney.

A good run out for town for this Brian Gallagher Memorial cup match. With 3 trialists playing, one of which, number 11 (Ish Fatajio) bagging 2 goals with a goal each for Cion Wren and Jacek Zielonka. A decent crowd taking advantage of free entry and the chance to get back to the Amber Dew on a fine sunny evening and forget about the disappointment of the World cup 24 hours previously.

The game opened and continued with some good passing moves giving the players game time to gel together. Ish opening the scoring with Wren adding a second later on in the first half.

Half time saw 6 changes with the introduction of Smith, Fisk, Zielonka, Schnaar, Bammant, on for Deeks, Fletcher,Pollock, Wren, Ingram and the number 8 trialist.

Second half saw Ish bag his second goal but cream of the crop was a superb strike from Jacek, which stole the show a screamer from 30 yards out into the top corner. Bammo should have got a goal on a couple of occasions late on but was thwarted by the woodwork.

Our third trialist of the night (number 10 whose name i cant trace) made some great pacey runs down the left wing and linked up well with smithy in the second half and put some good crosses in. Be interesting if we will see number 10 and 11 put pen to paper, on tonight's performance i wouldn't complain.

Putnins, Deeks, Cole, Curry, Fletcher, Pollock, Wren, Ingram no8, no10, no11 (3 trialists).

subs; Johnson(?) Smith, Zielonka, Fisk, Schnaar, Bammant, Overy

No 10 was the pick for me, good feet, close ball control and paced, always willing to take on defenders. Be interesting to see how he manages against better defences. For a first outing, with so many new faces it was a good run out. Controlled passing, plenty of pace and good football.

Not really, ever the optimist, glass half full. Only the second time most of the squad have lined up together. Remember our conference promotion season, we lost a pre- season friendly to Dereham, then a step 5 team, 7-1 at the Meadow. We will probably lose more than we win but my expectations are more about the squad developing to retain step 3 status and no more.

Lowestoft Town 1-1 Ipswich Town U23. Attendance 282.

Lowestoft Town welcomed Ipswich to a warm and dry Amber Dew Events Crown Meadow Stadium and played an entertaining 90 minutes between them, under the watchful gaze of new Ipswich manager Paul Hurst. As I just alluded to, it was overall entertaining game to watch, with two side full of young players eager for the ball as expected Ipswich always presented the greater threat and went into the half time break 1-0 up after an unmarked tap in from close range after 15 minutes but the Trawlerboys did have spells where they held most of the possession, early on in the second half this was rewarded

At the back Cole, Pollock, the number 3 wearing trialist Matt Brown and Tann were working hard and Brown, another young player with good skills on the ball and a bit of pace looked good down the wing, complementing Fowkes well in the process.

In the middle the familiar faces of Fisk and Zielonka put in good shifts, Fisk still managing to put in some good tackles but had to be careful when tackling, in judging the speed of the younger pacier players of Ipswich. Smith was named in the starting line up but was replaced by Schaar early on presumably injured in the warm up(??).

Putnins seems to get better and better and had a great game making a few very good saves, and knows and communicates his back line well too. Fowkes again looked promising and capped a strong performance with a well taken goal to make it 1-1, a similar effort just before half time went just wide of the goal. If we can sign him up he'd compliment Ingram and Bammant really well.

Onwards to Gorleston this Saturday, should be another entertaining game with another handy 90 minutes to add for the players.

Teams;

Lowestoft; Putnins, Cole, Trialist (Matt Brown), Pollock, Tann, Smith, Zielonka, Fisk, Bammant, Ingram, Fowkes.

Subs- Wren, Overy, Fletcher, Schaar, Trialist.

Ipswich; Wright, Cotter, Webber, McGavin, Marshall, Ndaba, Fulami, Crowe, Drinan, Lankester, Roberts

subs- Dobra, Ware, Scott, El Mizanzi, Clements, Brown

Gorleston 3-4 Lowestoft Town.
Sailor Brown Memorial Trophy.
Att 181.

A seven goal thriller saw Lowestoft retain the cup at a hot sunny Emerald Park but not for a spirited fightback from the hosts who found themselves 2-0 down inside the first 10 minutes only to pull back level within 15 minutes and go 3-2 up right on the stroke of half time!

Towns first goals came from trialist Matt Brown who impressed also in the Ipswich game, linking up well with Ben Fowkes' cross for the first and latching onto a rebound for the second. The game saw Deeks return to the line up, this time into the midfield. Awuah made an appearance too but didn't seemed to be at the right fittness and was replaced early on in the first half by Wren, leading to a re-jigging of the formation. Gorleston fought their way back into the game, town guilty of giving away possession and the hosts took their chances well, including a superb free kick that rose over the wall and dipped into the top corner out of Elvijs' reach.

Half time saw Cole Overy come on for Schaar and the impact was instant as a super stike made it 3-3 on 46 minutes. 5 minutes late Fowkes added the 4th, just rewards for his effort during the game from the start, making dangerous runs and defence splitting passes. Town saw out the rest of the half quite comfortably, with the Gorleston keeper being kept on his toes by Fowkes, Overy, Wren and Ingram.

Again overall very pleased with what I saw today, the side seem to be gelling along nicely and Matt Brown would be another handy addition to the squad - could be our next Harry Barker/Fraser Blake Tracey even.

Next up at Norwich Utd at home on Tuesday evening.

Putnins, Cole, Brown, Smith, Tann, Awuah, Zielonka, Deeks, Schaar, Ingram, Fowkes

Subs; Wren, Fletcher, Overy

Lowestoft Town 5-0 Norwich Utd
Att 160

A game overall of 2 halves, in the first half the visitors were the more threatening, with town having Putnins to thank for keeping the score to 0-0. There were concerns for Travis after he was fouled heavily and had to go off, leaving the ground in the car before half time, presumably off for a check up(?) As mentioned the visitors had a lot of early pressure and chances but town lacked that impact up top, Bammant saw more of the ball as the half went on but couldn't find the net. Fowkes made some strong runs forward and into the box but a number 10 trialist Jordan Rocastle wasn't having a good evening and was subbed in the second half being replaced by Jamie Godbold. It was fowkes with a strong impressive run into the area and unleashed a shot into the bottom corner to give town the lead on 40 minutes.

Over half time, Fletcher, Ingram and Pollock came on for Fisk, Bammant and Tann. Town then in the space of 6 minutes appeared transformed and knocked in 3 goals to be 4-0 up by the 56 minute.

Twitter;

48 minutes; A fantastic double save by Way after Ingramís free kick, before Henry Pollock volleys into the top corner on the second attempt. Instant impact. (2-0).

51; Itís another substitute as Connor Ingram slots home from inside the box for his first Lowestoft goal. (3-0).

56;The ball comes to Fowkes on the right hand side. He doesnít hesitate and strikes the ball precise and low into the bottom corner. (4-0).

From this point the tempo waned slightly on this muggy warm evening but the game was still very entertaining, much more so for the town supporters than the second half. Later on 82 minutes, Pollock combined with Fowkes who got towns 5th and his hat-trick.

A mention must also go to Cion Wren who worked hard all game and is clearly making very good progress in his own game and made his present and pace felt throughout.

In the end another overall enjoyable game to witness and a whilst remembering we are watching town play teams a level or two below the teams we will be playing in a fornight or sos time, one cant help feel good about our propects for the forthcoming season as we have some young, hungry and energetic fresh blood in the squad now, clearly thriving so far under the leadership of Jamie Godbold.

Putnins, Cole, Brown, Fisk, Tann Smith, Wren, Deeks, Bammant, Rocastle (Trialist), Fowkes

Subs; Fletcher, Reynolds, Pinheiro, Ingram, Pollock, Goldbold.

Thanks for the updates Jimbo.

I've never been one to read too much into pre season friendlies but this year is slightly different in one major respect.
It gives the new management team a brief opportunity to gauge the potential strengths and weaknesses of a very hastily assembled squad.

There appear to be a couple of standout performers thus far. Let's hope that they can bring that form with them when playing competitively against better defences.

Perhaps the novelty of being 'underdogs' can be exploited by JG and AR.

"Bury Town's home friendly with Lowestoft Town that was due to take place on Friday 27th July at the Denny Bros Stadium has been postponed. Lowestoft are suffering from some injuries, as are most clubs due to the lack of rain and hard playing surfaces. We have therefore agreed with Lowestoft that the match on Friday will be cancelled. "

Kirkley & Pakefield 0-2 Lowestoft Town.

First half both teams took their time to get into the game, Jacek was at the back and seemed to take a bit of time to find his feet, Smith worked will on the wing and gave Fowkes good service, along with Deeks who played some good defence splitting passes, one right at the end of the first half played in Fowkes who coolly slotted past the keeper to put town 1-0 up at the break. Earlier in the first half Ingram had a similar chance and through he'd scored only to see the ball go past the keeper and cannon off the bottom of the post. Despite this Connor is finding his feet well with each game and is becoming more of a threat.

In the second half, Fowkes made way for Schaar who 25 or so minutes later latched onto a through ball (possibly from Deeks again) one on one with the keeper unleashed a shot which deflected off the keepers' shins but kindly fell back into his path to roll it into the net. Later on in the half Ish Fatjado came on and made some good running but couldn't quite make the same impact as he did against Ipswich, having said that he did put in a couple of good crosses.

A couple of other observations;

Putnins; Largely faultless all game, several good saves in the second half to keep the clean sheet, commanding his area well and communicates well with the rest of the defence

Wren; Really has developed as a player, he maybe slight in build overall - but damn pacey on the ball and wont talk a challenge lying down so to speak, had an eye for a good pass too.

On a downside the evening saw Travis sidelined on crutches with his lower leg heavily strapped, awaiting the results of a scan to see what the damage is, everyone is hoping it isn't involving ligaments...

Starting 11; Putnins, Pollock, Smith, Deeks, Zielonka, Wren, fisk, Pinheiro, Ingram, bammo, fowkes

subs: Fletcher, Fatjado, overy, Schaar, Tann, Brown.
