Dorking Wanderers (A) 28/04/2018

Our final game of the season on Saturday sees us off to Dorking Wanderes and their picturesque WestHumble ground. It will be a last day to remember for both clubs.

Dorking bid farewell to the Westhumble ground, their home for the past ten years and it corresponds with our first visit. To celebrate the event Dorking Wanderers are throwing open the turnstiles and offering FREE entry to all spectators.
http://www.groundhopperunited.co.uk/2017/04/2017-stadium-5-westhumble-playing-fi...

Dorking were given permission to play their Isthmian Premier games at WestHumble, which doesn't comply with Step 3 ground grading regulations , whilst their new home at Meadowbank is completed. This was expected to happen in March but has been delayed until next season, due to construction problems.

They have enjoyed a successful first season at Step 3 level and visited the Meadow back in January when we shared the points. http://www.lowestofttownfcfansforum.co.uk/cgi-bin/Forum/YaBB.pl?num=1515696921

Since then the fortunes of both clubs have taken a different turn. Dorking are comfortable in mid table whilst we have endured an end of season relegation battle.

It appears that we could be on for a bumper balls out of the ground feast when looking at the WestHumble boundaries.....could we see the Canvey record of 18 being bettered?

See you all there😄

Hopefully leaving soon so we can take in the surroundings and have a little walk before the match.

Just back home and I'm still buzzing. So many positives to take from today and I'm so tumescent that the Mrs might get it tonight.

The turnout by the fans bolstered 50+ to the attendance - the fact that it was free attendance didn't seem to entice the locals. Bad form - no red wine on offer from 6-0 down (Sorry Bob - May be the boardroom had the last dregs). I had a few gins to cheer me up.

A meaningless fixture that has won me a pretty coin. Well played the lads!

It was party time at the Westhumble today as our hosts said goodbye to their picturesque home, and inflicted our heaviest defeat in over a decade.

https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/match/2017-2018/isthmian-football-league-prem...

We started brightly and in fact looked the more likely to open the scoring in the first fifteen minutes.

But once Dorking got their noses in front, thanks to a headed effort from Dan Pearce on 16 mins there only looked like being one winner. He added a second shortly afterwards, hitting an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.
The goal of the game.
The third came on the stroke of half time, game over.

We trudged off looking like a tired and beaten side. Despite Brooksys attempts to revive our fortunes during the break matters were soon to get a lot worse. Four nil after 46 mins and so the procession continued.
The reasons were all too plain to see.

Dorking simply exploited our weaknesses and thoroughly deserved their final day win. It was tough on a Lowestoft side that never gave it up but frankly we weren't good enough either individually or collectively. Our passing was poor and generally hurried and the superior physical strength that Dorking showed added to our deficiencies.

I'm sure the goals will be up on YouTube soon, be ready to wince when you see them.😱 Here they are ....... https://youtu.be/YHEskASI1lI

From 32mins 20seconds.....

The much anticipated ball of the ground count saw a rather paltry 12. Nowhere near the 18 at Canvey. Oh for a Greg Crane today, in so many ways😉

So, another season came to a close this afternoon and although we didn't get the result we all hoped for, at least we were able to fulfil our fixtures. Not so many weeks back that would have been seen as an achievement in itself.

Such has been the spirit around the club from the players who stayed, those who have come in on loan and the recent arrivals, that all deserve much praise. The efforts of all have been noted. 👍

As I have said before, this seasons survival will probably top DBs CV. 👏
Would it be too much to hope for that he stays and builds a side able to compete in a different league, at the other end of the table?🙏🏻

It was reflected today when us fans had to accept the drubbing philosophically and rather now look to next season with renewed hope but no less desire.

The close season will be interesting both on and off the park🤔

Shirleys full photo set, in two parts.
Shirley says
"There are 2 sets of photos of the match Dorking Wanderers v Lowestoft Town. I wanted to keep all photos of supporters in who made the journey, the academy youngsters who all made appearances and also because we do not know how many of these fabulous players will still be with us next season. Huge thanks and respect to Dale Brooks, staff and the players for the mammoth task of staying at the current level and for the supporters and friends who make each match an enjoyable experience. Enjoy."

I'd just like to add my thanks to the manager Dale Brooks, staff and all the players who have pulled on the shirt this season, and to all the supporters and club directors who make Lowestoft Town such a special club.
