Tonbridge Angels (H) 21/04/2018

This Saturday sees our final home game of the season and our penultimate game in this league before we finish off at Dorking Wanderers the following weekend. Our visit to Tonbridge earlier in the season saw us draw 2-2 after going 2-0 down. Goals from Hodd and Cotton;

The recent for of our visitors is hard to work out, beating Dulwich 2-1 in their last away game and losing to Enfield 4-1 at home showing a degree of inconsistency. Now playing for pride after missing out on a play-off spot one would fancy at least grabbing a point at least?

We'll be missing Robert Eagle who was recalled to Leiston to assist with their play-off charge, who undoubtedly added greatly to the dynamic of the team and creativity too. That aside, town can take confidence from the spirited 1-1 draw against Wingate and Finchley and will be going all out to put on a good final performance in front of hopefully a bumper home crowd, to put to bed what has been a testing season both on and off the pitch.

The supporters player of the season will be presented approximately 15 minutes before kick-off on the pitch and after the game there is a disco and the players' player of the season presentations to follow at around 8pm, with the disco continuing until late after that.

So our last game of the season, the weather is looking ideal with less of the heat which has got to be good for the players but don't forget the sun lotion...

Come on you blues!!

Over the past few years we have seen some significant last day encounters at the Meadow.
From the highs of promotion to the abject misery of yet another Play Off Final defeat.😱

The Tilbury game was joyful and the away fans on that day shared in our promotion by drinking far more than their share. A good bunch of lads🍻

The Hornchurch game was memorable for the one we owed them. The fact that it subsequently led us into a voyage of the unknown footballing world north of the Wash/Severn line, was one of those unintended consequences.
The Phoenix Hereford, I note, have just secured their third promotion in a row.
Mmmm it makes you wonder.........🤔

The following season saw Barrow, a town not unlike Lowestoft in many respects, clinch the title on their own long journey back to the Football League. Chappo retired and fans from both clubs celebrated together and an era came to an end. 🍾🍾🍾
The Gloucester game the following season simply confirmed it.👎

Last year saw dejected Harrow fans resigned to relegation only to be reprieved long after the game had finished. Their half way line crew reminisced about that one the other evening, just as the ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ was going in. ☹️

It will probably be a while before we face Tonbridge again, thanks to the Step 3 re-organisation, and I will miss them.
I can't remember anything but thrilling encounters against them.
I can honestly say I've never seen a Lowestoft v Angels match that was dull.
Do we bring out the best in each other or is it just the football gods working their magic?

I'm optimistically hoping for an inspired display and our first three points against them.
Either way it promises to be a good game.‼️

well that's another season up the meadow done and dusted, turmultous , ardous  and a different look around the place certainly.
As for today on a typical end of season rock hard surface it wasn't bad at all, plenty of action at each end and no shortage of endeavour  from all on show.Tonbridge seem to reflect us with a season well below that of those recently , it probably made for a better game as despite their size advantage they gave us space and chances were duly created.
With the details of the financial crisis still to emerge its pointless to gauge todays team with prospects for next year , but if Dale is here we can certainly expect full commitment which has in my opinionnot  been evident throughout this.
Although in the recent adversity the attitude and application of those still here has been exemplary and heartening, it may encourage those looking in to possibly get involved.
Special mention to Olly out nigh on all season and looked much more assured than before .
We now  know the club is preparing for step three next year and all that entails , it would be good to know how!
500  in , if only that can be guaranteed every week.

The Blues deserved more from a game in which they competed in a very enjoyable, end to end encounter with the Angels. It was very much an end of season game with nothing at stake. Great to hear that the debt situation has been resolved thruí negotiation. New opposition next season, I may even attempt some away games. Canít praise Dale enough for getting lads focused and playing with passion and commitment for the blue shirt. No disrespect to anybody but we could still do with a proven, goal scoring striker and perhaps somebody like the Southend midfield goal scorer. That said we should be looking to consolidate our position in the new league. Have a good summer everybody see you back at the meadow in August.
