It's some 25 years since we last visited Brightlingsea; during their fleeting two year spell in the ECL, whilst we were still members in 91/92 and 92/93.

They returned to their spiritual home the Essex and Suffolk Border League for the 93/94 season and amalgamated with Regent Park Rangers in 2005 to form Brightlingsea Regent. A thriving community set up that prospers both on and off the park running a number of teams, from under sevens to the Senior squad.

Much of their recent success can be attributed to their manager James Webster.
They were a mid table side when he took over in 2009/10 : their record since......

2009/2010 - Essex & Suffolk Border League Premier Div - Finished 4th

2010/2011 - Essex & Suffolk Border League Premier Div Winners (Promotion)

2011/2012 - Eastern Counties Div 1 - Finished 3rd (Promotion)
First Division Knock-Out Cup Winners

2012/2013 - Eastern Counties Premier Div - Finished 4th

2013/2014 - Eastern Counties Premier Div - Runners-Up (Promotion)

2014/2015 - Isthmian League Div 1 North - Finished 9th

2015/2016 - Isthmian League Div 1 North - Finished 8th

2016/2017  - Isthmian League Div 1 North - Champions (Promotion)

Four promotions in eight years is some achievement from any level.
Quite a record and essentially achieved using home grown talent, as
they certainly haven't bought their way to where they are.

Webster puts the success down to the proverbial 'hard work' done by the coaches at under 13 level. This is where the basics can be instilled into the aspiring youngsters as they make their transition to youth teams footballers. He certainly has benefitted with six of last years promotion side coming through the ranks. Whether they possess the strength and nous to compete in the ILP remains to be seen but Webster is clear that they won't be lacking in the spirit department....

They started away at Tooting, and grabbed a point and followed that with two defeats at home to Leiston and Tonbrige . A testing welcome to Step 3!!

Having negotiated a tough early season programme they rocked up at the Meadow, on New Year's Day and handed us a 2-1 defeat.

Since then they have been inconsistent at best. Although they did well to hold Dulwich a couple of weeks back....https://youtu.be/UPSVIrwQpBg
By the look of the North Road ground we could be in for a bumper ball oog spread.
The record of 18 out, at Canvey back in 2014, could well be bettered.🚀⚽️🚀

If we can repeat the performance of the first 80 minutes at Folkestone then we should collect something from this one.
The lads will not be without plenty of support as Dels🚌 is now fully booked , and the usual Kent/London contingent should be in attendance.

In view of the rain forecast for the weekend this match could yet fall foul of the weather. Will be watching Twitter before making the journey up the A12.

If it does go ahead then ŵe will see you all there👍‼️
7/10⌛️

ps...DB has been busy watching games locally in a bid to strengthen the threadbare squad. He clearly pulled another favour from Southend with the announcement of a midfielder joining the ranks on loan.

http://www.lowestofttownfc.co.uk/news/trawlerboys-sign-southend-midfielder-on-lo...

Will we see the young man perform at Brightlingsea? I certainly hope so.

I agree. With more rain due at Brightlingsea tomorrow I think the game must be in doubt.
However, the chance to visit the only Cinque Port outside Kent and Sussex (having been a limb of Sandwich since 1360) may make up for that. Brightlingsea is on the Essex Sunshine Coast and there are it seems a number of lovely walks along the seawalls, which offer ramblers and birdwatchers the opportunity to enjoy the diverse flora and fauna that abound around this beautiful area.

I'm going to have to miss away match #3 this season as I have a few reasonably high value items up at auction tomorrow and I'm bidding on half a dozen other lots and I simply have to be in the room.

Harrow on Wednesday is 100%. A damn pity as Brightlingsea looks one of the better away trips.

Just to highlight, there will NOT be a pitch inspection tomorrow. It’s in fantastic condition! There is no need at all for anyone to message the club secretary with concerns!

The pitch was fine, apparently 10" of topsoil over rubble.
Everyone played their hearts out but the score was 2-0, the second after Andrew Fisk gave away a soft penalty (never thought I'd write that),

Brightlingsea Regent 2-0 Lowestoft Town.

Lowestoft Town: Putnins, Cole, Smith, Fisk, Marshall, McAuley, Zielonka (Leacock 79), Batlokwa, Bammant, Eagle, Hodd (Schaar 66), Subs (not used) Machaya, Wren, Gillings

Attendance: 252

EDP report; http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/lowestoft-town/lowestoft-town-football-1-5460356

Not the worst performance but I've certainly seen better. A scrappy game on a wet playing surface, but still playable. A team of players still gelling together and finding their level - the New chap number 8, from Southend, Batlokwa, was lively and displayed the best touches on the ball of anyone in a blue shirt that afternoon. Other wise a lot of long ball, poor first touches and possession given away too much as a result. Credit to Brightlingsea who didn't give us any time or space on the ball, a tiring tactic for their players but it paid off.

The main concern is we just don't look like a team that can score, unless we win a penalty and up steps Travis. We had a few corners and a few free kicks but the home keeper was comfortably equal to any shots on target. Bammo had his first game back and good to see him get 90 minutes in. Hopefully can try and sort out the lack of goals for us going forwards.

A very good travelling contingent of Trawlerboys and girls left disappointed by the result but most still enjoyed their day out. A shout out the the staff at the Cherry Tree pub for their warm welcome and the couple from St Ives doing a bit of groundhopping, hope to see them again maybe next season!
