Brightlingsea Regent (H) 01/01/2018

New Years Day 2018 sees the 2016/17 Isthmian division 1 north champions Brightlingsea Regent make their way to the Amber Dew Events Stadium. Kick-off 3pm.

Our visitors find themselves looking to consolidate/survive their first season at Step 3 after winning promotion from step 5 finishing runners up in the 2013/14 Eastern counties premier. The current incarnation came about as a result of Brightlingsea United FC and Regent Park Rangers FC amalgamating at the start of 2005/06 season.

Current they sit 2 places below the Trawlerboys in 16th, 1 point behind having played 1 game more. Form wise, Regent have lost 7 of the last 9 league games, drawing one and their last league win was back on November 21st, beating Burgess Hill 5-2. Their last away win was at Harrow Borough on October 21st.

The Trawlerboys will be hoping to give a hopefully bumper New Years Day crowd something to cheer following the pre-Christmas disaster at home to Harlow, boosted greatly by the Boxing Day away win at Leiston and the point taken home from the trip to worthing. I dont see any need to name a different starting 11 to the last 2 games but I do expect Rory to be back from suspension from his double yellow he got on the 23rd.

I'll be expecting the pitch to be rather heavy with all the rain we've had since Christmas but as I type this, I'm aware of no more major spells of rain between now and kick-off, bar the odd shower tonight. Hopefully conditions for the match itself will be dry and reasonably bright, and not too cold!

A happy new year to you all,
Come on you blues!!

FT Lowestoft Town 1-2 Brightlingsea Regent
Att 341

Match centre;

https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/match/isthmian-football-league-premier-divisi...

Won't go into too much detail, it was a game which especially in the second half, tested the attention span considerably. Town started bright enough, on a visibly heavy pitch some players failed to find their feet, the visitors struggled going to ground, until the number 7 got booked for diving. A well worked goal saw Harvey Hodd header in the games first goal on 19 minutes, putting town into the lead The first 20-25 minutes were good overall, then on the half hour mark, Brightlingsea scored a superb volley to equalise which visibly got them going, in response town offered little.

The second half was nothing to write home about, town found it difficult to string more than 2-3 passes together and fell into the hoofball routine, Reed sadly looked off his game today and the visitors sensed their chance to take all 3 points and the did so. Town had a threadbare squad, missing Cotton, Jarvis and Fisk, who I believe became a father early this morning (congrats).

Humphreys made way for the introduction of Cruise late on in the second half and right at the end Wren came on for Cole.

A very disappointing game for the home faithful who turned out, plus the 20+ Brightlingsea fans overall one would have hoped for a much better attendance today.

Happy New Year everybody.

Thanks Jimbo for the report, the result didn't come as too much of a surprise.

More worrying was the attendance which didn't break the 400 barrier.
Dale Brooks in his New Year message optimistically stated his vision of a return to the National league set up within three seasons. With gates as low as today's just where the money will come from to finance a promotion bid remains something of a mystery.

Worthing who have experienced a difficult season to date managed to break the 700 barrier on Saturday. A figure we have yet to achieve since our return to the Isthmian.

Perhaps we should accept as Peter Gamble suggested in another thread.....the footballing public of the town have little interest in their local team and short of a dynamic local figure emerging that will remain the case.

Sorry to be so pessimistic so early in the year but the reality is IMO, the club have reached their level.

Anything above Step 3 should be viewed as a bonus rather than a holy grail.

At best a pessimist is invariably proved correct, at worst he is pleasantly surprised...........😉
