Tooting and Mitcham (A) 02/12/17

Following our 1-0 defeat at Dulwich, we return to the suburbs of South London on Saturday, when we visit Tooting and Mitcham. https://tmunited.org/History-NewBeginnings

Our two previous visits to Imperial Fields (KNK Stadium) have seen us return pointless. http://hoppysnaps.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/tooting-mitcham-united.html
On both occasions Tooting have beaten us 2-1.

To date we have yet to record a victory over the Terrors.
The best we have ever managed was a 2-2 draw at the Meadow back in 2012.
http://www.lowestofttownfc.co.uk/teams/50851/match-centre/1-330787

It has been a difficult season for our hosts and it wasn't until October that they recorded their first league win, a 4-3 triumph over Worthing.

Since then their efforts have been as inconsistent as ours.
Latterly Leiston and Margate have inflicted defeats on them and like us they have recorded two wins in their last six games.

Whatever happens on Saturday there will be no repeat of one of our old boys, a la Rickie 'grab em by the throat' Hayles, coming back to haunt us.
I can't find a record of any player appearing for both clubs.

That said it will not be an easy outing and I expect Mike Dixon and Omar Folkes, who have eleven between them, to test our back line.

Again we will be short of the suspended Reed and Cole, but even without those key
names on the team sheet, I would expect us to record our first win in this corner of Morden.

See you all there. 👍

So far this second half, town lead 3-1, goals from Borrer (both headers) and a superb goal from Bammo (as per Twitter and FWP)

Great to see Bammo and Borrer get a brace each and Foy finally open his account for us. Going by Twitter some good football leading up to the goas. Will eagerly await the views of those present at the game!

Not long home. The 1st half was possibly the worst 45 minutes witnessed. It was grim viewing and the lacrosse on the neighbouring pitch was better viewing. We broke the deadlock deep into 1st half stoppage time with a neat front post header that sailed into the top corner and was unstoppable.

Te 2nd half saw T&M give us a go for all of 10 minutes and they earned a well word leveler with Harry putting into his own net (little else he could have done) - that was it from T&M and we looked as though we could score every time we went forward - and we did. 5 shots on target and 5 goals. Bammo scored the 'Goal of the Month' with a fantastic strike into the top corner and Foy bagged a brace.

The opposition were poor - losing 5 players during the week and the assistant manager also departing. They looked like a side that have a long season ahead of them.

Dale seems to have turned a corner and we look more solid at the back, more so without Leacock. Jarvis pulled a hamstring late on and must be a doubt for next week - Travis returns s maybe a blessing there.

A nice little club is Tooting and I hope to visit again next season.

Photos sent to the press. These were some of Shirley's photos of the first half I sent from the sideline during the second half, Shirley will work on her full photo set later today.

Just a couple of observations to add to Plummys summing up of an afternoons entertainment v Tooting and Mitcham.

Firstly it was good to see Jarvis installed in the back four. A position in which he performed well and is more suited to his current physical attributes.

The days of Jarvis running the midfield with box to box runs are well over, as they have been IMO for the past couple of seasons.

Secondly the flurry of second half goals was as a result of us exploiting their weakness to defend set pieces. Although Borrer has been credited with our second goal it looked to me that Foy netted the corner via a combination of head and shoulder. His second was set up perfectly in the box, as he found space and benefitted from a goalkeeping howler.

Bammants chest trap, turn and shot on the volley was certainly the goal of the match and a clear contender for goal of the season to date.

It was also refreshing to see a good turn out of Blues fans. The attendance of 194 wouldn't have broken the 150 mark without us awaysters.

Only one ball out of the ground. Of the ten entrants only one got near with a shout of three. No winner again.

Am looking forward to the Enfield game and the opportunity to build on this result.
However, Enfield will not be half as accommodating as our hosts yesterday and will be well aware of our predatory instincts around the box.

In conclusion, the left side of the team still needs strengthening. Zielonka did his best but he is in no way a left back.

All credit to DB though, for getting the best out of a depleted squad.

Didn't see this one coming. What a result and Bammo Bammo should be echoed  from the fans as he's took his stick but on his day he's class.  Citizen Smith 2 Lowestoft 5 power to the Trawler Boys. A revolution may be under way on the pitch lol for all of us older enough to remember Wolfie.  Wink

Great result and it's always extra special to see the vastly underrated and misunderstood Bammant score and make such a big difference.

Dale has a conundrum now with Foy, Reed and Bammant all available. Bammant has to play for me and Foy will need to play if on loan.....so will be interesting. Maybe we will see Bammant and Foy up top with Reed in the hole.
