Harrow Borough (H) 30/09/17
27th Sep, 2017 at 5:03pm

This Saturday see Lowestoft welcome Harrow Borough to the Amber Dew Events Stadium.

This game comes hot on the heels of a morale boosting 1-0 win over Thurrock but Harrow will surely prove to be a sterner test. Harrow current sit 10th in the league, having scored and conceded 13 and 14 goals respectively so far. Their latest game was a home 1-0 defeat by visitors Dulwich Hamlet. Harrow indeed have only won once in the last 6 league games and will be keen to get their season back on track. https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/harrow-borough/form-guide

Last season saw them finish in the relegation places following an end of season 2-0 victory for a dominant Lowestoft but eventually Borough earned a reprieve on a points per game basis, as a result of Worcester City's  request to be relegated from step 3 to step 5.

Last seasons corresponding fixture;

All eyes will surely be on whether town can take at least a point and keep another clean sheet. Hopefully an improvement as well on the 224 attendance for the Thurrock game. The stay-aways missed a better performance than of late and hopefully this will give the players something to build on. Hopefully this is the start a better run.

Come on you blues!

A mediocre first half followed by an excellent second half saw a 1-1 draw.

That was an improvement on Tuesday in my opinion.
I feared for them when the line up was announced with an inexperienced bench to boot and opposition a tad better than Thurrock.
Strange that the game flowed in such a similar vein as Tuesday  with  differing reasons though, Harrow no doubt thought they could have been further ahead than the wonderful 20 yard top corner volley had promised.
This time most efforts were from further out and rarely tested Ben ( again faultless ) second half much more even again with us coming more and more into it, maybe they thought one was enough.
And so to us, Freddie got a start and worked hard as expected, Adam had the armband and led the side with a degree of authority ( not quite so expected ) alongside him  they may not have been commanding but the effort was there and in my opinion the weakness was further up. Jake  and Harvey actually saw more of the ball but could not get it to stick , Bammo limped off and Jaciek struggled again. The back four kept them reasonably at bay and gave us a chance.
It must have been a good half time chat because those three and the lively Cruise improved markedly although rarely testing the keeper. Then Callum limped off, Freddie moving back and Sam made his first impression on me and what a great start it was as  we improved another notch as his extra pace gave us more impetus.
I was actually more encouraged by today even without another late Rory header getting the deserved point as there were some real positives .
Lets have a more pleasant player analysis.
Ben , I still cannot recall a mistake or identify a weakness, with due respect - what is he doing here !
Callum - wasn't facing a giant  was better but has work to do.
Harry - doing a sterling  job -the sooner he gets on the right the better .
Rory- much more like himself committed of course , no howlers and works well with Dean and now helping out as Jake is having a breather
Bammo- an improvement on Tuesday then limped of - sorry son it actually helped us !
Jaciek - came more and more into the game had a fine drive whistle past a post and a lovely controlled header back into the box that deserved a better outcome.
Adam - came for the ball, directed players , much better ( still want to see him at left back as soon as )
Freddie - considering his lack of game time- did ok getting stuck in and when switched started slowly ( Polite ) and improved again - he is a real  trier - so ok with
Jake- constantly showed himself and had to tussle hard as his first touch was so poor it put him in tackles so often, but credit to him he persevered and improved markedly, his deft header putting Cruise through was real class , not his best day but 100% effort as ever and his graft gave space to others.
Harvey - cannot complain he didn't have the chance to shine his day was exactly as Jakes
Cruise- well done son - not easy coming into this standard but worked hard, looked confident and gave us some much needed forward impetus - I  hope we see a lot more of him from now on, also struck up an immediate partnership with Jake which bodes well for him, Jake and us.
Sam - first viewing for me and as with Cruise really took his opportunity , showed no fear and had a real influence late on- great start.
That leaves my star man Dean.
Getting sharper with every game and what a controlled influence he is having, he showed for the ball all day and looked like the class act he should. He uses the ball  so well  and never looked troubled doing the defending bit, he even cantered through the midfield second half.
With so many youngsters in the squad what an asset he could, should and looks likely to be.
With Rossi, absent for a while he is stepping into the leaders role.
So we have experience in Rory and Dean tightening up the back line, Jake working his nuts off up top and giving Cruise the ideal role model, Sam giving us an option in a weak area and plenty of absentees looking to get back in.
That's much more encouraging and well done to those making the most of todays opportuntities.
Only Billericay next !

At best a pessimist is invariably proved correct, at worst he is pleasantly surprised...........😉
