Title: Thurrock resign
Post by Tickets on 4th Apr, 2018 at 11:38am
Thurrock resign from the league
so Burgess Hill were beaten by them twice so keep the same points
we and Tooting beat them once so will lose 3 points each
Tight at the bottom!
(or am I wrong?)

According to the official Isthmian site the resignation is effective at seasons end.

Therefore their record until that time stands. Thurrocks record will not be expunged.

It leaves the question of whether they will reform and start again at a lower level still open.

Thanks Ronsdog
Does that mean there will be any relegation from the league this season ?

According to my sources this will not affect the one relegation from the Isthmian Premier.

Burgess Hill/Tooting or us will not be reprieved.

One club will still be relegated, as it stands at the moment.

It would mean a 2nd Step 4 4th placed team being promoted in their place.

Romford who are currently sharing the Ship Lane ground have made arrangements to GROUNDSHARE at EAST THURROCK next season. Which seems odd, in view of the fact that East Thurrocks Rookery Hill ground is in Corringham, which  is miles from Romford.

Even more so now that it has been revealed that East Thurrock are currently experiencing internal ownership wranglings.

Was there not a precedent set a couple of seasons ago when a team was saved from relegation when another side resigned from the league

I think what you are referring to is when Croydon were kicked out completely mid-season due the the Pakistani cricket fixer using the club as a front for laundering. IIRC we had the odd Saturday without a match as the league was reduced to an odd number. I don't recall who missed the reprieve but I'm certain Harrow would have been in the mix - possibly Carshalton, too.

Sorry to see Thurrock go. Best ground at this level and easy to get to (when the M25 plays ball).

:'(

Not Croydon PB I seem to remember that after a game at the meadow ( possibly the last game of the season )the opponents maybe Burgess hill walked away fearing relegation but we're saved by a team resigning from the league.  Anybody remember  help

Harrow Borough😀

Final game at the Meadow last season .....

As for precedents ; the season 2017/18 is unique as regards FA Regulations regarding promotion and relegation issues and were clearly set out ( one relegated from each Step 3 league ) to enable parity of numbers in each division.

Can't find the relevant document but it clearly states .... One relegation spot in each division.

Another fourth placed team at step four  will benefit.

Here's the document lifted from the FA Rules 2017/18.............

Section 183.....Steps 3 and 4
NATIONAL LEAGUE SYSTEM 2017-2018 183
Step 3 and Step 4
The Clubs  finishing in last place in each of the three divisions at Step 3 at the end of the Playing Season will be relegated to a feeder pool and placed in the most geographically appropriate division at Step 4 for the following Playing Season. Nineteen Clubs will be promoted from Step 4 comprising of the twelve Clubs  finishing in 1st and 2nd position in each division, together with the highest ranked 3rd place Club on the basis of points per game during the Playing Season plus six further Clubs determined by a series of Play Off Matches.. Where a Club finishes in 1st or 2nd position but does not meet the criteria for participation at Step 3, the Club  finishing in 3rd position shall be promoted. If neither the 1st or 2nd place Club meets the criteria for participation at Step 3 then the 3rd and 4th placed Clubs shall be promoted. The Clubs  finishing in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th position in each Step 4 division shall be eligible to take part in the Play Off Matches. Where a Club finishing in 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th position does not meet the criteria for participation at Step 3, the next eligible Club shall take part in the Play O  Matches, save that no Club  finishing below 8th position will be eligible to take part in Play Off Matches. The Play Off Matches shall be played so that the highest placed of the eligible Clubs plays against the lowest placed and the other two Clubs play each other in semi- final matches over a single leg at the grounds of the higher placed Clubs. The winners of each semi- fi nal match will play each other in a promotion  final over a single leg at the ground of the higher placed Club and the winner of that match will be promoted. If there are only three eligible Clubs then the highest placed shall receive a bye to the promotion  final match where it will play the winner of the other semi- final match and the winner of that promotion final match will be promoted.
The promoted Clubs will be placed in a feeder pool and placed in the most geographically appropriate division at Step 3.
In the event of vacancies arising at Step 3 on completion of the season, the losing Step 4 Play Off Finalists  shall be ranked on a points per game basis during the regular Playing Season, with vacancies being filled by the highest ranked Club(s).............

This confirms that Thurrock will be placed bottom of the league and one other will be relegated.
