Title: Away travel to Chorley
Post by morris minor on 30th Jul, 2014 at 7:09pm
The understanding is that all players are to travel on the coach at some point of the journey to the game.
The coach is a 53 seater....17 players will have double seats that's 34 + management + staff that equals 39 that leaves 13 seats........I count 6 directors+2 volunteer committee members plus that 1 spare seat that has to be left by law for emergencies....only 4 seats left for supporters then. £110 collected on the day  towards costs?
Coach costs what?.. £800 to £1000 pounds this year.

Change the 53 seater to a 49 seater as we have a new company from Norfolk for the away matches. That's 4 less seats bang goes the 4 supporters  who would have gone, not any paying supporters then.

This is from the official site:

We are now taking bookings for our first three away games of the new season in the Conference North.

At present we are still finalising our travel arrangements for next season and this is proving to be a timely but important exercise, considering the travel costs involved for the club.

With this in mind we can confirm that we WILL be having coach travel as usual and are now taking bookings but as of yet we are not in a position to advise leave times, stops, etc and these will be published when confirmed.

Please bear in mind that with the length in trips this season and the large majority of the team being on the coach, spaces on the coach for supporters will be at a premium and booking early is advisable to avoid disappointment. This will also mean that in most cases any single travellers will be paired up in the seating plans for the trips, to allow the maximum space possible for the players to relax during lengthy travel times.

We currently have a set of travellers who come to all away games and their names are now automatically put down for these games. Therefore the remaining places are likely to fill up very quickly throughout the season and we can only apologise to those who may miss out on occasions but we will try to lay on another coach if demand is high enough to cover the cost.

Travel Costs:-
This season has seen a significant increase in travel costs and understandably we have had to increase our charges for travelling supporters this season as a result.
We have tried to keep the increase to a minimum and will now be charging £25 per seat for all games, irrespective of journey time or miles travelled.
PLEASE NOTE:- Any cancellations that are made within 24 hours of the leave time, will result in the travelling supporter being charged in full for their reserved place on the coach.

This season we are yet again offering a saving to travellers who attend a large majority, if not all of our away league games (will not include cup games or play-offs) by purchasing a season travel ticket. The ticket is for one person only and is non transferable. The cost of the Season Travel Ticket is £420 and this can be arranged for you by contacting the Football Club Travel Coordinator Terry Bullen on 07879496895.

As a gesture to supporters that have travelled with us regularly, the coach for our first away game against Chorley is already full. However, we are running a reserve list for this game and if we can get enough interest to cover costs, we will lay on another coach for supporters.

Bookings are now being taken for the following away games:-

Saturday 9th August 2014 - Chorley (3pm kick-off)
Postcode:- PR7 3DU
£25 a seat, departure time TBC
COACH NOW FULL (reserve list being run for extra coach)

A couple of things spring to mind.

According to Google and the AA, the journey is 252 miles and will take 5hrs 35 mins in perfect driving conditions. Factor in stops and additional pick-ups then you can easily add another hour to the travel time...and that's not allowing for hold-ups and/or delays. Rough maths suggests that's circa 13 hours sat on a coach. Departure time will have to be at about 06:00 if they plan on having lunch somewhere.

I don't think it'll take too many journeys before the novelty wears off. especially when there's no alcohol allowed.
